From Between Her Legs
Down, down, down into the earth, he reined his horses
Die, die, die! – no child, no wheat, no flowers, no feasts;
From between her legs, her laughter sounds full–
Now the world, the land, the women will thrive again.
Sound piece for SPLAYED, an exhibition by Eva and Belinda Papavasiliou presented in February 2022 at MeMeraki, Limassol. Written as an ambient loop accompanying a sculptural installation and time-based performance, the piece responds to the myth of Baubo, a headless goddess in Greek mythology who has breasts for eyes and speaks from between her legs.
Vocal arrangement drawing on Arvo Pärt's tintinnabuli compositional technique; lyrics adapted from Clarissa Pinkola Estés’s Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype (1992).
